The Netherlands are a mixed bag when it comes to Junior Eurovision and although they’ve had their highs and lows, they often end up smack bang in the middle of the results table. With their one and only win no less than eight years ago, the nation is due for a bit of success in the form of a Top 5 result. A national final helped select boyband Fource to fly the Dutch flag at the contest this year, and the song they will be performing is called Love Me, but will Europe love them enough to send them to the top of the table?
Although not my first pick at the Dutch national final, the release of their competing entry has completely convinced me that The Netherlands are in with a chance of actually getting in the Top 5 this year. This song is a complete bop – the perfect pop song. It’s fun but still sounds modern and mature, which I think will appeal to the older viewers of the contest. We’re addicted during the verses, but when that chorus hits, we’re tapping our toes to the insanely catchy melody. It’s also the type of song that you can sing along with, at least in the choruses even on first listen, as it’s simple but totally effective.
The song features some big notes that if hit right live, this is going to go off in the arena. I had initial worries that the harmonies might not come together live, but if you listen to their national final performances, those worries just slip away because together they are gold. With some choreography on stage, I think this could be one of the best performances on the night, and I hope that the results adequately reflect what this song deserved.
I’m really excited about this one, and I’m hopeful that Europe will love it as much as I do. I’m giving it a 9/10.
